Township Committee
Your Democratic Representatives to Township Committee, Mayor Kevin P. Johnson, Deputy Mayor Darrell Booker, Committeeman and Mayor Emeritus Tom Pullion, Committeewoman Aimee Belgard and Committeeman John McElwee have years of public service, community committment and management experience behind them.

  Kevin P. Johnson, Mayor

I have lived in Edgewater Park all my life and graduated from the Edgewater Park School system as well as being a 1977 graduate of Holy Cross High School in Delran, NJ. As a resident of Edgewater Park, I have been involved in many of the programs this community has offered.  When I was a growing up in EP I was involved in the cub scouts, played local sports in the EPAA and was a lifeguard in the township at several community pools. As an adult, I have coached and promoted local sports teams, been involved with fundraisers that benefit the community and more recently have been involved with the local Benevolent Order of Elks BPOE 2550. After receiving my AA degree in Advertising/Design and Illustration from Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia, and completing further studies at Moore College of Art, I began my career in Publishing. My work as a manager has required me to hire, schedule, supervise, and evaluate personnel, while managing many large projects simultaneously, including purchasing large capital equipment and managing large budgets. I believe this managerial experience has enabled me to better serve this community and assist in the management of the township.

I am a currently Deputy Mayor of the Edgewater Park, a member of the Planning Board, President of the Edgewater Park Neighborhood Watch and a member of the Benevolent Order of Elks BPOE 2550 as well as Township Committee Liaison to the Edgewater Park Athletic Association. I participate extensively in Township government, recreation, and community events. Along with my wife, Marian O. Johnson, who has served as the Edgewater Park Recreation Coordinator and Planning Board Chair, I have worked to promote gang awareness efforts in our township. Currently I am busy re-building the EP Neighborhood Watch Program.

One of the most important issues I would address on Township Committee is the redevelopment of Rt. 130 and other commercial areas. I believe the continuing redevelopment of existing commercial areas, specifically along Rt. 130, will allow us to maintain our existing open space as well as maintain the values of our residential areas. More businesses locating in Edgewater Park will help maintain our tax base, increase services and quality of life for our residents, and improve our reputation as a great place to visit, to live, raise kids, and retire. I also will work towards better township management through efficiency as well as generating revenues through additional grants for roads, safety, recreation improvements, and school programs. We have a great township now, but we can do a lot more if we work together. It starts with cooperation, and I hope that you will support me as we work together to address these issues.

  Darrell Booker, Deputy Mayor

A year after graduating from Drexel University majoring in Management Information Systems, I moved to Edgewater Park. I chose this wonderful location based on its quiet setting and family appeal. My wife and I are now currently raising two daughters that are growing up in this community and in the public school system.

I work as a computer technician but wear many hats and provide many services. I manage an IT staff, perform server administrator tasks, create/monitor projects, and provide hands-on resolutions to peers and employees of all levels. Being a technical person is usually associated with having “tunnel vision” and seeing things one way but not me. I have a broader focus when quality of life decisions have to be made and it affects my family. I believe my experience in dealing with situations in a hands-on manner from start to finish allows for total success. My methodology is not complex. It involves thorough research, attention to detail, the willingness to listen, and the ability to make an informed decision. My aim is to make sure our town gets the best services available with the resources we have and not burden the Edgewater Park tax payers to the brink of extinction.

With your favorable support and my increasing involvement in our town, I am sure to become an added member to keep Edgewater Park a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

  Tom Pullion, Township Committeeman

I have my BA degree in Psychology and graduate credits in Engineering, as well as extensive training in local government management, budget/finance, and regulations. I also have worked as a manager and sales representative since 1980. I have lived in Edgewater Park since 1990, and raised three children here.

I believe that my seven successful years as an Edgewater Park Township Committee Member and former Mayor, and my experience as an EP Board of Education Member and President, demonstrate that I understand how to best address the issues facing our township. I also have paid more than my fair share of taxes ($6500/year), so I appreciate the concerns of taxpayers.

I believe my background in management, marketing, and customer service have helped us to raise since 1999 over $6M in outside grants to improve our town's appearance, infrastructure, police, and maintenance services, including the “Cops More” grant to hire additional police to make us one of the safest towns in the area. I implemented the Economic Redevelopment Committee to attract businesses to Rt. 130 and collaborated on the County level to promote the 12-town riverfront region. Through these relationships, we have attracted the Coat Factory, Ott's, Big Lots, Super WaWa, Dunkin' Donuts, and Jonathan Motors, and there are plans in place to develop more businesses to improve our citizens' quality of life while reducing the tax burden.

I also have learned in business to reduce costs by working efficiently and sharing expenses. We now have joint efforts with surrounding towns to share costs of garbage collection, leaf pickup, and other services. Consequently, we have twice weekly garbage pickups while other towns have one pickup and no leaf removal. My relationship with State officials also led to a $300K grant from the Dept. of Community Affairs when FEMA denied our windstorm claims.

After seven years in office, I believe I truly understand the important issues and have demonstrated that I can generate grants and attract business ratables while managing budgets and improving our infrastructure, services, and quality of life. My solid foundation of experience will allow me to make greater improvements, finalize the redevelopment of Rt. 130, and realize our vision of being the best place to live and have a businsess, and a great destination to visit.

  Aimee Belgard, Esquire, Township Committeewoman

The mother of two young children, my husband Bill Belgard and I moved to Edgewater Park over eight years ago, drawn by the small-town appeal and family-oriented nature of the town. Although we immediately fell in love with our house, we never imagined that it would be our good fortune to feel so quickly welcomed to the community and to form so many wonderful and important relationships with our neighbors. It is because of these neighbors that I desire to serve the residents as a member of the Edgewater Park Township Committee.

Having been named one of Burlington County’s 10 people who made a difference in 2006 by the Burlington County Times, I have extensive experience as a community leader and volunteer. I’ve been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society for more than 10 years and as the former event chair of the Society’s Relay For Life of Delran (2006-2008) and Relay For Life of Willingboro (2004-2006), I led hundreds of teams of volunteers to raise over $350,000 in the fight against cancer. I continue to volunteer and raise money, currently serving on the Society’s Eastern Division Board of Directors and as President of the Board of Advisors for the South Jersey Region. I also advocate in the fight against cancer as the New Jersey State Lead Ambassador for the Cancer Action Network.

For the past three years I have also volunteered as a member of Edgewater Park’s Planning Board, where we have been presented with various opportunities and challenges as we continue to work to grow Edgewater Park to the satisfaction of our neighbors. As I embark on my fourth year on the Board, I now have the pleasure of serving as vice-chair of the Board. Most recently, I have also become involved as a volunteer with Edgewater Park’s newly implemented Neighborhood Watch program.

I also possess the ability to take-on and handle difficult situations. In my career as a trial and appellate civil-defense attorney, my job constantly requires me to listen and work with people, advocate, negotiate and implement creative problem-solving skills; talents that would be well utilized in serving the residents of Edgewater Park as a member of Township Committee.

As the Belgard-family story carries on and my husband and I continue to raise our now seven and four year old sons in Edgewater Park, it is my desire to serve the residents of Edgewater Park to ensure that all of our neighbors can be proud of our town, despite difficult economic times, and with a continued fostering of the community spirit that has been exhibited to our family since the day we made Edgewater Park our home.
